Advice

I'm looking to gear up for the colder weather. I know what I want for pants. Any recommendations or thinkgs to look for in a jacket? I'd like something that I can wear over a long sleeve tech shirt that will keep me warm enough for the early morning run's November - March.

I have an old patagonia jacket that I LOVE, though it's finally starting to wear out at the base of my neck. For any sweat producing activity I think you want something that wicks and breathes -- doesn't have to be GoreTex, but should pull moisture away from you, The exterior shell shold also provide some sort of wind, rain/snow repellancy, if possible.

My patagonia has a very fine bit of plush lining inside which is great in the cooler, into downright frigid weather. It's a bitt too warm on those in-between temp days (45 F - 40F), but from about 40 F down it's great and if you do wear it when it's a bit warmer you don't feel really gross inside of a straight nylon shell. The light lining is great too because you can add warmth by building up base layers rather than running in something bulky and furry which would be too hot. It's very flexible.

I'd recommend some form of water repellancy. Mine's not waterproof, but in a light rain or snow it's adequate -- you could always get one of those super light running rain jackets and wear it over it in heavier rain (that's what I'm considering this year)

I think the best thing to do is to head to the stores and look around. I was shopping online the other day and didn't find what I was looking for but a jaunt through a patagonia, or New Balance or whatever should provide lots of ideas.

I have a very light Patagonia running jacket. No liner, no pockets, super light. I think they really have the fit down, which is why I like it. Not sure how it would do in colder weather, but this fall it's been great.
