Worked

No running for me last week, but I did get a wicked quad workout from riding on Friday and Saturday. Friday brought a foot of fresh powder, which means an 11am start of the work day in these parts. We hit the woods, which was incredibly fun, even with snow that was a bit heavier than earlier in the season. After four runs, my quads were shaking from fatique. It felt good.

I hit the slopes again on Saturday for some faster runs. They should have been easier on the legs, but I was still a little worked from the day before. Now, two days later I'm ready to get back on the running thing. If only the weather will cooperate.

Yeah, we also take advantage of the powder down here in Boston advertising land . . . the powdered donuts. Every Thursday somebody brings in donuts.

I must admit that I've not touched one since before starting this blog -- it's all part of my plan to return to physical fitness. Change the diet, change the exercise habits.

Is your company hiring?

Lots of web-type positions on the job board actually.

Good for you for changing the diet. I have to get more into the exercise to really want to change my eating habits. The more I exercise, the more I consider food to be fuel. Right now, I'm enjoying the bagels...donuts not so much. Run first, diet later. That's my motto. Oh, and keep the red wine flowing.

I needed to change both at the same time or it would have been pointless for me. I'm not sure how much weight I've actually lost, but it's a good amount. I'll find out at the end of the month.

While I'm not one to avoid the vino, as you know, I've been cutting back on that too and it's been a huge boon to slimming down. I'm hoping that this time 'round I make it a habit and stick with it b/c I feel good.

Oh, and where the heck is everybody else?

It is remarkable how much alcohol contributes to weight gain and loss...I am with VT Runner, the motivation to eater wiser never seems to hit me until I've been very active for a solid period of time. Or after a long stretch of business travel.

"eater wiser..." Yeah, I'm okay, and a former Engligh teacher, I swear!

I've cut my alcohol consumption in half. I used to have a glass of wine a night, and on Friday/Saturday two glasses which brought my total to about 1.5 drinks/day. I'd follow that up with a cookie or whatever. The first few weeks were hell as my body adjusted to much less wine and much fewer cookies. I still miss the nightly vino but not so much the cookies etc. I permit myself one good dessert/week and maybe a cookie or two other times, and tend to focus my drinking on Friday or Saturday, but I'm definitely down on booze consumption. These things go hand in hand for me -- it's easier to run when you weigh less. Running takes weight off and eating better helps to take more off so the benefits of running become more apparent more quickly and it's a positive reinforcement circle.

But let's face it, it's way easier to be lazy and eat and drink to our hearts content. It's tough to limit food and get out of bed early in all kinds of weather. It's all about getting hooked on the discipline portion of the plan.
